The long house's windows each represent a daughter borne to that family: if the doors are closed, it means the daughter is married (in which case, the son-in-law comes to live in his wife's household), if the doors are open, it means the daughter is married. And the opening at the end of the house, the one with no shutters, represents a son. But who cares about him, right?
